YACMA Executive 2023


Micheal Luo - President

Michel is a fifth year medical student, and will be at North Shore Hospital in 2023. Born out of Levin, he arises from a tight knit Chinese community. He aims to provide the same level of camaraderie towards the medical students of Auckland.

When not occupied by his studies and commitments, Michel enjoys exploring the numerous waterways and coastlines of New Zealand, with a fishing rod by his side.

As President in 2023, he aims to both continue, and grow YACMA, so that it can achieve greatness within and outside of the Chinese community.

Bosco Yue - Vice President of Outreach

Bosco is a fifth-year medical student at the University of Auckland and is currently placed at Middlemore Hospital. Born and raised in Hong Kong, he moved to New Zealand in 2016, and graduated from Auckland Grammar School in 2018. Alongside his studies, he volunteers at the ADHB and tutors pre-clinical medical students.

Being an immigrant who had personally encountered cultural and language barriers to health, he aims to raise awareness of Asian health among medical students. As Vice-President in 2022, he will continue to support members and help build meaningful connections within the YACMA community, as well as to strengthen the relationships between YACMA and ACMA members.

Kevin Tan - Vice President of Admin

Kevin is a fifth-year medical student placed at Waitemata DHB. He and his family immigrated to NZ from China 11 years ago. Having spent half of his life in each country; he has grown fond of both the place that embodied his childhood nostalgia, but also the beautiful land that nurtured him with its rich culture and fostered his passion for medicine. In his spare time, he enjoys reading books, camping and drawing. He is excited to join the team and dedicated to growing alongside the YACMA family.

Jessie Liu - Membership Secretary

Jessie is a TI at the University of Auckland, placed at Waitemata Hospital for 2022. She was born and raised in New Zealand, and her parents are both from Fujian, China. In 2017, Jessie graduated from Saint Kentigern College and knew she wanted to pursue her passion for healthcare. Through YACMA and ACMA, she would like to give back to the Asian community that has been the backbone of her life in NZ. Jessie enjoys hiking, travelling, and playing board games in her spare time.

Wen Lin - Treasurer

Wen is a 4th-year medical student at the University of Auckland. Wen is a postgraduate entry student with a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health. She enjoys cooking, exercising and watching K & C dramas in her spare time. Wen hopes to ensure YACMA continues to be a supportive network for students and promote awareness of Asian health in the medical setting.

Helen Zheng - Mentorship Officer

Helen is a trainee intern currently placed at Waitemata Hospital. She was born and raised in Auckland and graduated from Epsom Girls’ Grammar. She has made many precious friends and experiences from YACMA and ACMA events, and would like to help other students obtain these as well. In her spare time, she likes to play the kalimba and spend time with friends and family.

Jerry Tang - TI Rep

Jerry is a current trainee intern placed at Middlemore Hospital this year. Born in China and grew up spending time in both countries. He has been involved with YACMA for many years also previously serving as pre-clinical rep and president. He enjoys the family and community vibe that YACMA provides for Auckland medical students. Jerry hopes to be able to help guide the younger group of YACMA in his final year. In his spare time, he enjoys going to the gym and spending time with friends and family.

Ethel Xu - 5th Year Rep

Ethel is a fifth-year medical student on placement at Middlemore Hospital this year. She grew up in Christchurch and graduated from Burnside High School in 2018. Ethel really likes the sense of camaraderie and connectedness within YACMA. She is excited to continue being part of this wonderful community. In her spare time, Ethel enjoys reading, watching movies and cooking. 

Jason Liu - 4th Year Rep

Jason is a 4th-year medical student. Son to Chinese immigrant parents, he expresses his heritage through his cooking. Always down for a laugh, he loves forging new relationships. He can't wait to see YACMA thrive amongst the next generation of medical professionals that are ready to drive change!

Ally Yu - Pre-clinical Rep

Ally is a third year medical student at the University of Auckland. Although born in Auckland, she spent the majority of her childhood in Beijing before coming back to Auckland to complete her high school studies at Rangitoto College. Alongside her studies, she enjoys reading novels, exploring old and new films and spending time with friends and family. Ally is excited to learn lots by joining the team this year, and looks forward to contributing to the YACMA community!

Cara Wang - Pre-clinical Rep

Cara is a third-year medical student born in China and raised in Palmerston North, with windmills and flower gardens. When studying in Auckland, YACMA is where Cara finds belonging and joy. She hopes to support the preclinical students to make the most of their year. She loves to get out there with friends or enjoy the quiet times of the day.

Lee-teen Wong - Pre-clinical Rep

Lee is a Chinese Malaysian third-year medical student from Auckland. He enjoys playing tennis, baking - and eating - desserts, and going on hikes with his friends in his free time. Lee is grateful to be part of such a close-knit community of students and looks forward to organising inclusive and engaging cultural and social events for all medical students this year.

Carol Huang - Editor

Carol is a third-year medical student at the University of Auckland. Born and raised in Auckland after her family moved from Shanghai, she graduated from Rangitoto College in 2020. Alongside her studies, Carol enjoys thrifting, trying new DIY projects and exploring both old/new spots in the city. By joining the YACMA team, she looks forward to connecting with the wider Chinese medical community and learning skills beyond academics!

Edson Low - Editor

Edson is a third-year medical student at the University of Auckland. Born to Malaysian Chinese migrants, he grew up in NZ and graduated from Auckland Grammar School in 2020. When he’s not studying, he’ll be playing saxophone, building model kits, and doing scenic photography. As one of the editors, Edson will be excited to capture and share the best moments for YACMA this year!

Angel Li - Editor

Angel is a third-year medical student, born and raised in Auckland across the bridge in the North Shore. After graduating from Rangitoto College in 2020, she made the decision to pursue a career in healthcare. Outside of her University studies, Angel enjoys cafe hopping around Auckland, catching up with friends and making music on the piano and viola. As an editor, she is most excited to capture key moments on camera and help further establish the strong sense of community in YACMA.
