ACMA AGM 2020
On Sunday 08 November 2020, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held at the Imperial Palace in Panmure. The AGM was an opportunity to recap what was a turbulent and challenging year with the global COVID-19 pandemic. One of the highlights of the year was the continued collaborative efforts between ACMA and The Asian Network Inc. This involved a number of well-attended, popular virtual Zoom talks on various health topics by ACMA doctors. ACMA was also able to collaborate with other health organizations to promote Asian health, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. This included Counties Manukau District Health Board (the Flu Fighters), Asian Family Services and the Ministry of Health for COVID-19 messages. There was also mention of the few social events that we were able to hold during the pandemic and changing of COVID-19 alert levels. A YACMA update was also provided by outgoing President, Aimee Meng.
The return of the ACMA Shield was also celebrated. The Shield recognizes members who embody qualities that help in the fulfilment of ACMA’s goals and objectives. The Shield was awarded jointly to Dr Linda Lum and Dr Gary Wu for 2020 for their continued involvement in ACMA and going above and beyond their roles.
The service of previous ACMA Executive committee members was also recognized. In 2019, Dr Derek Luo, Dr Stanley Loo, Dr Kristine Ng and Dr Adrian Wan stepped down from the committee. This year, Dr Andrew To, Dr Michelle Wong and Dr Kevin Liu all retired from the committee after many years of service. Dr Wilson Young also stepped down and was recognized as an Honorary Life Member in celebration of his service and contribution to ACMA. We thank all contributing executive committee members for their contributions to the Association.
The reigns of leading ACMA into 2021 were also handed over, with Dr. Linda Lum taking over from current President, Dr. Carlos Lam. The incoming 2021 Executive committee was announced as follows:

Our keynote speaker was Dr Patricia Ding, who provided an update on advancements and trials in cardiology medications and treatment strategies. Recently graduated trainee interns, Thitapon Uiyapat and Brian Yeom, also gave presentations on their elective as part of the ACMA Elective Scholarships.
Many thanks to our speakers and to all those that attended the AGM. Thanks again to our departing Executive Committee members for their service. ACMA is also grateful to Aspen for their sponsorship of this event.
